The following information describes the basic duties and powers of the various executive positions for the IT society:
President: Presides over all meetings; represents the Society in its relations with any other organization or person; is responsible for the direction and integration of the actions of the Executive; is responsible for the calling of general and executive meetings; submits to incoming Executive a report of the activities of the group for the preceding year; is an ex-officio member of all Executive committees; may appoint special committees as she/he sees fit.
Vice-President: Assumes the duties of the President at her/his request; automatically assumes the office of the President in the event the position becomes vacant during the term of office; acts as the liaison between the Society and the MSVU Students Union; assumes any other duties as the executive assigns him/her.
Secretary: Submits a copy of newly-elected members of the Executive to the Students Union upon their election; is responsible for keeping accurate minutes of the important actions and points of the group and Executive meetings; is responsible for and keeps a record of all correspondence for the Society; keeps an accurate record of membership; assumes other such duties as the Executive assigns him/her.
Treasurer: Is responsible to the Society and to Students Union for the finances of the Society; submits a mid-term and an annual report to the Society and to Students Union; keeps books open at all times showing the current financial condition of the Society; collects and keeps a record of membership dues; carries out such duties as the Executive assigns her/him.
Publicity Chair: Is responsible for designated aspects of the Society's endeavours; the chairperson must direct activities towards the fulfilment of Society's purpose; is responsible to keep track of all Society events and activities; is responsible to photograph or delegate a photographer for Society events and activities; carries out such duties as the Executive assigns him/her.
Communications Officer: An additional officer position created for this year (long story on why). Nothing officially written, but essentially, created to manage the Society's visual identity (e.g. the logo, letterhead, shirt design, etc); administered the listserv; maintained the membership database.
