The Mount Saint Vincent University's Information Technology (IT) program is the only one of its kind in Atlantic Canada and one of the few offered nationally. Its fast-paced, current curriculum prepares you to meet the information needs of today's business. You learn to match changing technology with evolving business needs and play a vital role in keeping your organization up to date with the most efficient tools available. You gain hands-on experience with a wide range of software applications including presentations, spreadsheets, database management systems, word processing, and telecommunications.

This dynamic program emphasizes people skills through communications, project and human resource management, and organizational theory. Focus areas include Internet technologies, programming, web page design, groupware, and records management.

While some graduates go on to pursue further study, others work around the globe in a variety of challenging and exciting field. An IT degree opens the door to a world of interesting career opportunities including: IT management, LAN administrator, records analyst, technical support manager, information technology trainer, information centre manager, custom PC application developer, end-user support specialist, database developer, technical sales personnel, consultant, and web page designer.

The IT degree integrates 23 units of credit from information technology, business, co-operative education and electives. An integrated approach ensures that in addition to a thorough knowledge of technology, you have the analytic, problem-solving, and presentation skills necessary to successfully manage the introduction and use of information technology.

A variety of learning experiences helps you bridge the gap between theory and practice. Involvement in team assignments gives you an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences while being part of a dynamic group. Case studies, simulations, and group projects are used to apply classroom knowledge to actual business situations and to aid in developing decision-making skills.

Three compulsory work terms for full-time degree students provide 12 months of paid, professional IT experience. With co-operative education, you apply theories and skills learned in the classroom to your work position. Not only does co-op allow you to "learn by doing," it helps you develop professional contacts, explore potential career options, and improve job search skills.

The Certificate in Information Technology is a six-unit program with the choice of a general Certificate or a concentration in business application development, local area networks, or records management. The diploma program requires the successful completion of 12 full units of credit: six units of credit required for the Certificate in Information Technology plus six full units of addition credits.
